FRL Unit Selection Guide

Choosing an FRL unit starts with the compressed-air equipment it will serve. Confirm the required pressure, air demand and air quality before choosing a port size or adding lubrication. This guide helps you prepare those details for a replacement or a new installation.

For the current product options, see IHPC’s FRL unit range in Chennai.

Duncan Maxflow filter regulator lubricator assembly for compressed air preparation

Filter, regulator and lubricator: what to specify

The filter, pressure regulator and lubricator perform separate functions. A filter/regulator combines the first two in one unit; a separate lubricator can complete the assembly when the downstream equipment requires it. Check the equipment manufacturer’s lubrication instructions before specifying an FRL instead of an FR combination.

Compare the listed Maxflow filter/regulator + lubricator with the separate filter + regulator + lubricator assembly. Confirm the exact configuration in the quotation.

Checks before selecting a unit

  • Supply and outlet pressure: record the available inlet pressure and the pressure required at the equipment.
  • Air demand: provide the required flow and the conditions at which it is stated. Ask for the selected model’s flow data; matching the pipe thread alone is not a complete selection.
  • Connections: confirm both the port size and thread standard, together with the flow direction and available mounting space.
  • Air quality: give the downstream manufacturer’s filtration and lubrication requirements. Ask which filter element and treatment stages meet them.
  • Drain and access: state the preferred drain type and allow room to inspect and service the bowl.
  • Environment: report ambient temperature, contaminants and any material restrictions.

Verified Duncan Maxflow reference

Duncan’s published Maxflow G1/4–G1 combination data specifies compressed air, a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar and a temperature range of 5°C to 60°C. It lists line, wall or bracket mounting, a standard semi-automatic drain and an optional automatic drain.

These are references for the named Maxflow combinations. They do not establish the limits of every FRL or Parker Legris unit. Verify the ordered model, options and current technical sheet.

Example enquiry for a plant air line

For an automobile workstation, steel-plant panel, tyre-plant line or cement-plant pneumatic circuit, describe the equipment and conditions rather than selecting by industry name alone. Copy and complete this checklist:

  • Equipment and existing FRL make/model:
  • Inlet pressure / required outlet pressure:
  • Air flow and stated measurement conditions:
  • Port size / thread standard:
  • Required filtration / lubrication instruction:
  • Drain preference / mounting space:
  • Operating environment / quantity:

Include a photograph of the label and existing installation. If you are also replacing pneumatic flow control valves or one-touch fittings, include their part markings and tubing dimensions in the same enquiry.
